I think I know why we fall into addictions.
We have a tendency to run away from pain, and into the comforting arms of pleasure. Honestly, it makes a ton of sense.
Very few people in this world enjoy pain. And as we’ve developed as humans, what counts as pain has definitely changed. These days, pain can be an inconvenience, it can be resistance, or basically anything that feels difficult.
So we start work as hard as we can to remove resistance from our lives, except that when we run from resistance we don’t solve the problem. We start to tell ourselves stories about why we can’t overcome challenges, and before you know it you’re settling for mediocrity.
It’s a hard truth to stomach.
