Avoid pain and seek pleasure.
In general, humans seek pleasure and avoid pain. Unless there’s a deeper purpose inside us, we won’t do activities that make us feel negative. Ironically, some of our greatest pleasures lead to inevitable pain. Excess eating, drinking, or smoking all increase the likelihood that pain will arrive faster.
Conversely, short-term pain can lead to long-term pleasure. You work out, get sore, and recover stronger. At a certain point, all the hard work and pain you’ve endured turns into pleasure. You feel proud when you look at yourself in the mirror and you’re healthier for it. There’s a power to short-term, non-life-threatening pain.
In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I share the one big idea that will ensure you make a significant lifestyle change like hitting the gym or quitting drinking. I interviewed many people who all released 100+ pounds and now I share what I learned about their process and what they did differently than others who’d failed.
